For over two decades now ,Gugelhof’ in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg has been captivating guests with its phenomenal Alsatian and South German cuisine. Gugelhof is known for having great service, and features a friendly front-of-house team that delights in looking after the restaurant’s diverse clientele. The restaurant has attracted notable visitors from across the world, including Bill Clinton, Gerhard Schröder, and a number of artists, entrepreneurs and those who simply enjoy the finer things in life. With a quaint ambiance like that of a rural inn, Gugelhof allows guests to feel just like royalty, which is made possible thanks to the creative genius of owners Hans Nübel, a native of the Black Forest who migrated to Berlin in 1980, and Detlef Obermüller, a Saarlander who has always felt a special connection to the vibrant city.

New chef at Gugelhof
Since July 2016 Mathi Ganeshu is Gugelhof’s new chef. It’s not his first time at our restaurant: Already 20 years ago, in the year of Gugelhof’s founding, he was in our kitchen, then as a kitchen help. He liked the job so much, he decided to become a chef himself. And so, after apprenticeship and jobs at prestigious restaurants like the Landhaus Dill in Hamburg and in Berlin at Fischküche, Borchardt, Panasia, Kanzler-Eck and Tomasa he’s back at Gugelhof. We’re very happy indeed!
